Grade 5s at Essendon North Primary School were named state winners of their division in the Wakakirri Story Dance Challenge.

The festival invites students to perform a 3-7 minute story using dance, acting and creative movement.

Principal Scott Mullen said they focused on homelessness, with the children grasping the concept well and taking out Best Community Story Award.
