"It’s so important for young people to be able to express themselves through the art of storytelling and dance. This has such a positive impact for all the students involved."

JUSTINE CLARKE

"Arts Education at its best!

We understand the world and ourselves through story. Wakakirri provides school students with the opportunity to reflect on what it is to be human, to think and participate more fully in the deeper questions of life and share that in performance with their fellow participants, other schools and their audiences and with the industry professionals that are part of the panel."

"Wakakirri is a very special place.... A place that through the eyes of children, the stories of our land, our culture and our lives are told. It gives a young generation a platform to share their point of view with a mainly adult audience.

The result stands as a mirror on our world, with all its beauty, complexity and sometimes disconcerting gravity."

JASON COLEMAN

"I love Wakakirri for many, many reasons but one of them is by getting yourself involved in singing and dancing you are a part of a much bigger thing than you actually understand.

You are using your mind and your body at exactly the same time.  You are also part of a team which is a fantastic thing.  Singing and dancing teaches you confidence.  If you’re part of a team, you are confident about yourself and you understand passion, hard work and discipline, you are so much more likely to make good choices for the rest of your life.

So Wakakirri is a powerful thing."
